What’s New in the Latest U.S. Climate Assessment: Arjhong’s Take
Climate change is in my eyes one of the most prominent issues in today's world. Some say the worlds lateness in the awareness of this issue might be too late for possible change, while some say there is still a chance for change. I strongly agree with every point Brad Plumer and Henry Fountain go over.
The structure of the read was straight forward and backed up with relevant information. And the title is just a perfect example of how we are behind, “What’s New in the Latest U.S. Climate Assessment”. Why would they say “Latest”, if they were not making a clear connection with how we have been blind to this issue, until very recently.
The reading proves how what many believe or predicted about what would happen in climate change has became a reality. This issue is daunting, yet global warming has seemed to pick up the pace and effect the world earlier than we predicted. Plumer and Fountain also introduce the possible financial issues of climate change, how it can cause, “Hundreds of billions of dollars in annual damage”, and they are spot on. The financial issues, the environmental issues, and the social issues of climate change bring an incredible sense of instability.
I remember speaking about environmental sustainability and its effects on the power and reputation of countries. How as the world becomes more and more aware of global warming, countries like China are making drastic changes in things like energy production by constructing hundreds of thousands of solar panels. By doing this, other countries take notice and may imitate or even attempt to top one another to hold that most environmentally sustainable country title. Its an honorable and important aspect of a country and is thankfully becoming increasingly prominent in today's world.
With focusing on real life issues and making connections with social, environmental and economical references, Plumer and Fountain are able to give a clear and concise insight of today's issue of climate change. Although the points made in the article were obvious to me because I am very aware of this issue, it is still important and relevant information that can educate others, while also spark greater awareness and assertiveness for change.
