Why Canadians Are So Peaceful

       Canada is often seen as a place full of polite, peaceful people. In fact, in 2016 the Global Peace Index called Canada one of the most peaceful countries in the world. There could be many factors contributing to this, one of the more interesting theories is that it is because Canada is so close to the US, which is far less peaceful. The more realistic theory seems to be that it is a very large country, around the same size in land as the US, but with a much smaller population. (Canada: 36.71 Million; US: 325.7 Million). The idea is that through having more space and a more homogenous, kind society, Canadians have more resources and less to worry about. They have better education as there are less people to educate, and for the most part it's easy to move to another province if you don't like the one you're living in. The citizens of Canada themselves have a high number of immigrants and since they have such a spacious country, they can afford to have the extra people. The majority of Canadians agree with their Liberal Party, which is very open-minded, and they are for the most part a progressive country.
        My favorite theory is that it's just too cold there for people to have the energy to not get along.

On average, nationally, women earn approximately 78 cents to the man’s dollar. The wage gap impacts women different ethnic backgrounds even more. According to the huffington post, Latina women earn 56% of what a white man makes and black women earn 64%. The first and most impactful thing the United States needs to do is pass equal pay legislation in all 50 states. Many states have enforced the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), an amendment that ensures that nobody faces discrimination based in their sex, especially in the workplace. Tackling Environmental Sustainability in my Imagined Country

As the president of any given nation focusing on environmental sustainability, my main concerns would be the conservation of biodiversity, the effects of Climate Change, and the reduction of fossil fuels. One way of increasing the biodiversity in many countries, with the exception of areas whose climate could not support heavy vegetation, is through the commission and propagation of food forests. A food forest as defined by the Beacon Food Forest Permaculture Project is “a gardening technique or land management system, which mimics a woodland ecosystem by substituting edible trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals.
