Trump was back at it again toying around with human rights!
Human Rights: Dakota Pipelines Diminish Native American Tribal Sovereignty
Tribal Sovereignty has been toyed with for many years and to top that, it will continue to be thrown around as long as President Trump is in office. Yes, it is true American Indians are in trouble with trump in office and their sovereignty is threatened due to decisions made by Trump. Mr.Trump, on January 21, 2017, signed off for two oil pipelines to be constructed. These pipelines going through Native American land, and diminishing their sovereignty.
-"Mr. Trump, any comment to the Standing Rock community and the protesters out there?" a reporter in the Oval Office asked after the president finished signing five executive orders. Trump put his head down, pursed his lips and looked in the opposite direction. He then responded to a question about when he expected to make a Supreme Court nomination.”
Standing Rock Sioux and other tribe all have their own communities where the pipelines will be constructed. The Dakota Access pipeline will be running through a major lake, where many of the tribes receive their source of clean water. Many are worried the water will be contaminated and unsafe and unsanitary for use of these tribes once these pimples are constructed, destroying tribal communities in the area.
Although actions have been taken in order to stop these pipelines to be constructed, the actions have not stopped any forward progress. Protestors have rented out in North Dakota for many months. “The Standing Rock Sioux tribe opposed Trump's executive action on Tuesday and vowed to take legal action, Reuters reported. A lawyer for the tribe said Trump acted "hastily and irresponsibly."
Obviously, many seem to be completely against this decision of the oil pipelines. But another question is, who wants them there, and why? These pipelines will be built to move and enlarge energy infrastructures. It will also put away with key Obama administration environmental actions. Oil producers located Canada and North Dakota will benefit from this by obtaining a quicker route for crude oil that is transported to U.S. Gulf Coast refiners.
Trump being the businessman, sees American Indian Tribes as a setback for the US and does not agree with them being supported and maintained by funded organizations. Trump will almost definitely get his way, unless the Secretary of the Interior, the Office of Management, and Budget come up with a plan in order to stop this. The only plan so far, will be to make budget cuts and stop hiring new staff, which, works in Trump's favor. Will anyone be able to stop Trump?
