US Citizens Leaving for Canada -Izzie

During the latest presidential election there was a large group of US citizens saying that they will, "move to Canada," if Donald Trump was elected. This is because Canada is looked at as more advanced in terms of human rights and more liberal policies. These liberal views are things that Donald Trump was directly apposing. Once Donald Trump was elected the actual number of people leaving America for Canada began to be tallied. As of August 2018 thousands of Americans had left for Canada, either seeking residency or student visas. During Obama's presidency the number of people leaving America for Canada was lower by about one thousand. Over a thousand US citizens are being granted student visa and searching for higher education outside of the United States. This is not something that has been common in the past. The most common path for students in America to take is going straight from high school to college inside of the United States. Going to college in America from an American high school is still the most common but the numbers are beginning to shift. A large percent of the current youth are much more liberal in views than that of the older generation and therefore are looking to live in a more liberal country. Because of the way the new generation thinks I believe it will just become more common for students to leave America to start their lives in Canada especially if the government continues to be run by people with the same ideals as President Trump. If the statistics continue to rise in favor of students leaving this could have a large impact on what the new standard is for higher education. It is not in America's best interest to have youth leaving America for education and then not returning. On the opposite end of that I wonder what kind of impact this will have on Canada in the long term. Are Canadians welcoming the influx of American students?

State of the Dis-Union?

Donald Trump will be getting his State of the Union Speech after all, after Nancy Pelosi threatened him with the removal of that possibility during the longest ever government shutdown. Many are wondering what exactly Mr. Trump could be planning to address at the speech, and whether or not he will continue to pursue his harsh rhetoric on immigration, which was the primary cause for gridlock during the shutdown where he refused to sign spending bills without a $5.7 billion dollar allocation for a "southern border wall." . Although there is some hope that perhaps the President has come to his senses about the issue, and is willing to compromise and work with the new Democratic majority in the House, the likelihood of that is doubtful, as there are also speculations that he will declare a National Emergency tonight to bypass Congress for his funds.
