Peace in Iceland
It might be striking to learn that Iceland, the safest and most peaceful country in the world, has no army, navy, or air force. The only type of organization dedicated to protect national security is the Icelandic Coast Guard, in addition to the Crisis Response Unit. However, the latter is mainly a para-military unit that serves peacekeeping purposes. So, how do they manage to defend themselves? They are part of NATO, and have agreements with the US and other allied members to guarantee their security in case of a threat. Likewise, the Icelandic police has a passive role, and they do not carry guns.
Iceland is also an egalitarian country. It was ranked n. 1 country in terms of gender equality, and they are one of the most LGBT friendly countries in the world. Furthermore, most of its citizens are part of the middle class. Their Gini coefficient is around 0.28, which puts them among the countries with lowest income inequality in the OECD.
