Music and social activism have been connected to (nonviolent) crime for a long time.  As the  Singing Revolution occurred, Estonia (a Baltic country located on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland) sang its way out of being under the rule of the Soviet Union.  It all happened in 1988 when more than 100,000 Estonians came together for 5 nights of music to protest Soviet rule.  This peace movement was, for Estonians, a way to protect their culture, and to add to this small country managed to hold the Singing Revolution while being invaded by Germany, Sweden, Denmark and others.  In 1991, the country with just 1.5 million people, gained its independence through their culture.
