Why Every Vote Matters

Especially in light of this recent election, a big topic of debate and discussion has been, “does my vote really matter?” There are many citizens say they don't vote, including not being educated enough about the candidates, registering is too much work and one of the most common reasons is that people say that their vote doesn't matter. In my opinion, this dilemma that many people have is that of course, every vote matters.
The article Does My Vote Really Matter, Though? An Honest Answer To Whether It Counts, gives many examples of close elections that could have had a different result based on even one vote. For example, Washington State police officer, Kevin Entze lost in a GOP primary in a state House election by one vote out of almost 12,000 votes cast because a reserve officer that he worked with left his ballot on his kitchen counter and never mailed it out. This is a perfect example of how even just one vote can change the course of an entire election.
I know many people who, especially in this past midterm have said they thought their vote didn't matter, but since this past election was a midterm, every vote directly counted towards the candidate you vote for, as opposed to a presidential election in which the vote is mostly determined by the Electoral College, which is how Donald Trump won the Presidential election.
Voting always, aside from just electing people into office is a great way to convey you beliefs and opinions on a certain topic or issue. Voting a way to voicing how you feel on issues and even if the candidate you voted for doesn't win, but if you voice your opinion draws attention to thee issues and can help them be addressed.
